What is the purity of bullion?

Bullion comes in the form of bars, coins, and ingots from a variety of precious metals, including gold and silver. No matter what form of bullion you buy or whether you get it from Money Metals Exchange, it is always at least 99.5% pure. To determine the purity of bullion, you need to know its density and mass.

What is considered bullion?

Coins and bars of precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, and palladium are considered bullion. Bullion “rounds” are coins made of precious metals that are not intended to serve as currency, like gold or silver coins. Jewelry plated in a precious metal isn’t considered bullion because it is not pure.

Do you charge sales tax on bullion?

Many states require us to charge sales tax on bullion and other forms of precious metals delivered to those states. Orders into vault storage are not subject to state sales taxes. See below for details. Prior to 2019, few online bullion dealers charged sales tax, except when shipping to states where they were headquartered or had other operations.
